Front Row to Paradise: Discovering the Barefoot Luxury of Baan Anda

default

When you dream of a Thai island escape, the image is often the same: the rhythmic sound of the Andaman Sea, golden sands just steps from your door, and a sanctuary where the line between indoor luxury and outdoor nature simply disappears.

At Koh Jum Beach Villas, that dream has a name: Baan Anda.

As our signature 2-Bedroom Premium Beachfront Pool Villa Suite, Baan Anda isn’t just a place to stay, it is a front-row seat to the best of Koh Jum. Here is why this villa is the ultimate choice for families, couples, or friends seeking an authentic yet refined island retreat.

Uninterrupted Andaman Views

The name “Baan Anda” pays homage to the breathtaking Andaman Sea, and the villa lives up to its namesake. From the moment you step into the expansive 210-square-meter living space, your eyes are drawn through the floor-to-ceiling glass doors to the turquoise horizon.

Positioned directly on the beachfront, the villa offers a level of privacy and proximity to the ocean that is rare to find. Whether you are waking up in the master suite or enjoying a morning coffee in the lounge, the sea is your constant companion.

Space to Breathe, Room to Connect

Spread across a massive 1,400-square-meter private garden, Baan Anda is designed for those who value space.

  • The Master Suite: Features a plush king-size bed and an en-suite bathroom that celebrates the island lifestyle with both indoor and outdoor showers.
  • The Second Bedroom: Perfect for families or a second couple, this room offers a king-size bed plus an additional single bed.
  • The Heart of the Home: Baan Anda features a fully equipped kitchen and a spacious, air-conditioned open-plan living and dining area, perfect for those slow tropical afternoons when you want to retreat from the midday heat without losing the view.

The Art of Outdoor Living

While the interiors are stunning, life at Baan Anda truly happens on the 230-square-meter terrace.

  • The Private Pool: Spend your afternoons floating in your large private pool, watching the long tail boats drift by in the distance.
  • The Beachfront Sala: Our favorite spot? The traditional Thai shala tucked at the edge of the garden. It’s the ultimate sanctuary for a midday nap, a private massage, or a “sundowner” cocktail as the sky turns into a canvas of pink and orange.
  • Al Fresco Dining: With the sound of the waves as your soundtrack, dinner on the terrace is an experience in itself. Order from our Driftseed Restaurant and enjoy a private seafood BBQ or a curated Thai Cheese Platter under the stars.

Experience the “Real” Thailand

Staying at Baan Anda means more than just luxury; it’s about immersion. Koh Jum remains one of Thailand’s last “hidden gems”, an island where the pace is slow and the hospitality is genuine.

When you aren’t lounging by your pool, you can explore the island’s lush interior, visit our organic garden, or take a private boat excursion to nearby island. For those seeking wellness, our resident coordinator can even arrange a private yoga or meditation session in the privacy of your villa garden.

Your Barefoot Luxury Escape Awaits

Baan Anda is a celebration of “barefoot luxury”, a place where you can kick off your shoes the moment you arrive and not put them back on until it’s time to leave. It is spacious, stylish, and perfectly positioned for memories that will last a lifetime.

Solar Impact Powered by Nature

Life on an island follows the rhythm of natural cycles. The tides shift, seasons change, and each day begins with the rising sun over the Andaman Sea. Increasingly, that same sun is also helping to power daily life at Koh Jum Beach Villas.

In 2025, our solar system generated 44.62 MWh (44,620 kWh) of clean energy. While this number may sound technical, its impact is simple. It represents thousands of everyday moments powered by renewable energy, from early morning coffee and warm showers to evening lights and the quiet work that keeps the resort running behind the scenes.

This amount of energy is equivalent to powering 12 to 15 Thai homes for an entire year, or approximately 1,400 to 1,600 villa nights of electricity. For a small island community where resources must be carefully managed, reducing dependence on fossil fuels is an important step forward.

What makes this achievement especially meaningful is that 100 percent of the energy produced was used on site. Every unit generated by the sun was consumed within the resort itself. Nothing exported, nothing wasted. When conditions allow, daily operations run directly on solar energy.

By producing our own renewable power, we prevented 44.48 tonnes of CO₂ emissions in 2025 alone. This is comparable to driving more than 180,000 kilometres in a petrol car, or planting over 2,000 trees and allowing them to grow for a year.

At Koh Jum Beach Villas, sustainability is not treated as a separate initiative. It is part of how we choose to operate each day, making practical decisions that reduce impact while preserving the natural beauty that draws people to the island in the first place.

Regenerative hospitality is not about grand gestures. It is about consistent choices, made over time, that allow both people and place to thrive together.

A Rare Hornbill Sighting on Koh Jum – A Sign of Hope

There are moments in nature that remind us just how special and fragile our island ecosystems truly are. Recently on Koh Jum, local wildlife watchers were rewarded with something extraordinary, the sighting of what appears to be two hornbills, marking the first confirmed observation on the island in more than a decade.

Hornbills are among Southeast Asia’s most iconic birds. Belonging to the family Bucerotidae, these large, striking birds are characterized by their long, curved bills and prominent casque on the upper mandible, features that make them unmistakable in flight or perched in the treetops.

While Thailand is home to at least 13 species of hornbill, many of them are rare, threatened, or declining due to habitat loss, fragmentation, and hunting pressure. Some species, such as the critically endangered Helmeted Hornbill, face extremely low population numbers and are afforded the highest levels of legal protection.

The recent sighting on Koh Jum, likely of an Oriental Pied Hornbill (Anthracoceros albirostris), a species that occurs across parts of Southeast Asia, is notable not only for its rarity here but also for what it may signal about the health of our island’s forests and fruiting trees. Hornbills are principally frugivores, feeding on a wide variety of forest fruits and playing a crucial role as seed dispersers in tropical ecosystems.

For residents and visitors alike, spotting a hornbill can be a moment of wonder, a reminder that even in places where wildlife sightings have become uncommon, nature can still surprise us. Their presence here invites curiosity, respect, and a renewed sense of stewardship for the landscapes we share.

As the sun sets over Koh Jum’s forests and shorelines, the memory of these remarkable birds stands as an invitation: to look up, to listen, and to remember that the wildness we cherish is still very much alive.

A Little of Koh Jum, Packed to Go

The Botanical Amenities Collection

Some details of a stay linger long after departure. A familiar scent. A daily ritual. At Koh Jum Beach Villas, one of the most quietly loved elements of the guest experience has always been our in-villa amenities. Thoughtfully created, gently scented, and designed for everyday comfort, they are now available to take home as part of our Botanical Amenities Collection.

Produced in Thailand using plant-based, organic formulations and ethically sourced Himalayan lemongrass essential oil, our shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are the same products used throughout the villas. Supplied in bulk and decanted into refillable bottles, they form part of our wider commitment to mindful travel and reduced plastic waste. By popular request, the collection is now available in 100ml biodegradable, wheat-based bottles, ideal for travel and everyday use alike.

Fresh, clean, and softly botanical, the aroma is instantly recognizable to guests who have stayed with us. The formulations are gentle yet effective, leaving hair feeling light, soft, and cared for, more like stepping out of a small island spa than using a conventional hotel product. It is a personal favorite too, and one we have yet to find an equal to among natural products.

Available from our retail store at THB 250 per bottle, the Botanical Amenities Collection is intended as both a practical essential and a subtle souvenir. A small reminder of open windows, salt air mornings, and the slower rhythm of island life. Simple, considered, and designed to stay with you, wherever you travel next.

Fresh From the Cane: Why Sugar Cane Juice Belongs in Your Glass

At Koh Jum Beach Villas we have introduced something simple yet special at Driftseed Restaurant and Bar; fresh pressed sugar cane juice. It pours from the machine in a pale golden stream, lightly sweet, cool over ice and perfectly suited to our barefoot beach setting.

Beyond the pleasure of that first sip there is a surprising amount to appreciate about this traditional drink, from its natural properties to its connection with more sustainable choices.

What exactly is sugar cane juice

Sugar cane is a tall grass that thrives in warm climates. Inside each stalk is a fibrous core rich in natural juice. When the stalks are pressed the juice is released and served immediately, usually over ice.

Unlike refined sugar, which has gone through several stages of processing, fresh sugar cane juice is simply the liquid as nature made it. The taste is gently sweet with a hint of grass and caramel, more delicate than many bottled soft drinks.

A natural way to refresh in the tropics

Spending time by the sea, swimming and walking on the sand, is wonderful for the body but it also means we lose fluids and minerals more quickly. Sugar cane juice can support gentle rehydration thanks to its natural composition.

It contains:

  • Natural sugars that offer a mild energy lift without the harsh spike of many energy drinks
  • Electrolytes such as potassium, calcium and magnesium which help the body maintain fluid balance
  • Small amounts of antioxidants that support the body in dealing with everyday oxidative stress

It is still a sweet drink so it is best enjoyed mindfully, however for many guests it provides a more natural alternative to fizzy soft drinks or heavily flavored bottled juices.

From field to glass with less waste

Sugar cane is also interesting from a sustainability point of view.

  • Fast growing crop

Sugar cane grows quickly in the right conditions and can be harvested several times from the same root system. This makes it a productive crop per square meter of land compared with many slower growing plants.

  • Efficient use of the whole plant

When cane is pressed for juice, the leftover fiber, known as bagasse, does not need to be thrown away. In many places it is used as fuel, animal feed or even as a raw material for paper and compostable packaging. This kind of circular thinking supports more responsible agriculture and reduces waste.

  • Less packaging, more local flavor

At Driftseed we press the juice directly at the bar. There is no can, plastic bottle or long transport chain for a soft drink that travelled across the world. Guests see the cane, the machine and the glass, and can literally taste the landscape in front of them.

How we serve sugar cane juice at Driftseed

At Koh Jum Beach Villas we like drinks that feel relaxed, elegant and rooted in place. Our sugar cane juice fits perfectly. Guests can enjoy it in a number of ways:

  • Simply over ice for a light, refreshing drink
  • With fresh lime or ginger for extra zest
  • As a mixer with your chosen spirit for a naturally sweet long drink
  • As the base of a signature cocktail created by our bar team

Pressed to order, each glass feels personal and fresh, and the gentle sweetness pairs beautifully with sea air and slow afternoons.

A small choice with a bigger story

Ordering a glass of sugar cane juice might seem like a simple decision but it carries a small story. It supports local growers, reduces reliance on imported bottled drinks and makes use of a crop that can be grown and reused thoughtfully. At the same time it offers you a cooling pause in the day, a moment to sit back, listen to the waves and savor something made just for you.

Next time you visit Driftseed Restaurant and Bar, ask for a glass of fresh sugar cane juice and taste how refreshment, local character and more mindful choices can come together in one sip.
