Solar Impact Powered by Nature

Life on an island follows the rhythm of natural cycles. The tides shift, seasons change, and each day begins with the rising sun over the Andaman Sea. Increasingly, that same sun is also helping to power daily life at Koh Jum Beach Villas.

In 2025, our solar system generated 44.62 MWh (44,620 kWh) of clean energy. While this number may sound technical, its impact is simple. It represents thousands of everyday moments powered by renewable energy, from early morning coffee and warm showers to evening lights and the quiet work that keeps the resort running behind the scenes.

This amount of energy is equivalent to powering 12 to 15 Thai homes for an entire year, or approximately 1,400 to 1,600 villa nights of electricity. For a small island community where resources must be carefully managed, reducing dependence on fossil fuels is an important step forward.

What makes this achievement especially meaningful is that 100 percent of the energy produced was used on site. Every unit generated by the sun was consumed within the resort itself. Nothing exported, nothing wasted. When conditions allow, daily operations run directly on solar energy.

By producing our own renewable power, we prevented 44.48 tonnes of CO₂ emissions in 2025 alone. This is comparable to driving more than 180,000 kilometres in a petrol car, or planting over 2,000 trees and allowing them to grow for a year.

At Koh Jum Beach Villas, sustainability is not treated as a separate initiative. It is part of how we choose to operate each day, making practical decisions that reduce impact while preserving the natural beauty that draws people to the island in the first place.

Regenerative hospitality is not about grand gestures. It is about consistent choices, made over time, that allow both people and place to thrive together.

A Rare Hornbill Sighting on Koh Jum – A Sign of Hope

There are moments in nature that remind us just how special and fragile our island ecosystems truly are. Recently on Koh Jum, local wildlife watchers were rewarded with something extraordinary, the sighting of what appears to be two hornbills, marking the first confirmed observation on the island in more than a decade.

Hornbills are among Southeast Asia’s most iconic birds. Belonging to the family Bucerotidae, these large, striking birds are characterized by their long, curved bills and prominent casque on the upper mandible, features that make them unmistakable in flight or perched in the treetops.

While Thailand is home to at least 13 species of hornbill, many of them are rare, threatened, or declining due to habitat loss, fragmentation, and hunting pressure. Some species, such as the critically endangered Helmeted Hornbill, face extremely low population numbers and are afforded the highest levels of legal protection.

The recent sighting on Koh Jum, likely of an Oriental Pied Hornbill (Anthracoceros albirostris), a species that occurs across parts of Southeast Asia, is notable not only for its rarity here but also for what it may signal about the health of our island’s forests and fruiting trees. Hornbills are principally frugivores, feeding on a wide variety of forest fruits and playing a crucial role as seed dispersers in tropical ecosystems.

For residents and visitors alike, spotting a hornbill can be a moment of wonder, a reminder that even in places where wildlife sightings have become uncommon, nature can still surprise us. Their presence here invites curiosity, respect, and a renewed sense of stewardship for the landscapes we share.

As the sun sets over Koh Jum’s forests and shorelines, the memory of these remarkable birds stands as an invitation: to look up, to listen, and to remember that the wildness we cherish is still very much alive.

A Little of Koh Jum, Packed to Go

The Botanical Amenities Collection

Some details of a stay linger long after departure. A familiar scent. A daily ritual. At Koh Jum Beach Villas, one of the most quietly loved elements of the guest experience has always been our in-villa amenities. Thoughtfully created, gently scented, and designed for everyday comfort, they are now available to take home as part of our Botanical Amenities Collection.

Produced in Thailand using plant-based, organic formulations and ethically sourced Himalayan lemongrass essential oil, our shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are the same products used throughout the villas. Supplied in bulk and decanted into refillable bottles, they form part of our wider commitment to mindful travel and reduced plastic waste. By popular request, the collection is now available in 100ml biodegradable, wheat-based bottles, ideal for travel and everyday use alike.

Fresh, clean, and softly botanical, the aroma is instantly recognizable to guests who have stayed with us. The formulations are gentle yet effective, leaving hair feeling light, soft, and cared for, more like stepping out of a small island spa than using a conventional hotel product. It is a personal favorite too, and one we have yet to find an equal to among natural products.

Available from our retail store at THB 250 per bottle, the Botanical Amenities Collection is intended as both a practical essential and a subtle souvenir. A small reminder of open windows, salt air mornings, and the slower rhythm of island life. Simple, considered, and designed to stay with you, wherever you travel next.

BEACH BITES

Where Island Wanderings Meet Easy, Coastal Eating

Seasonal pop-up dining on the sands of Koh Jum

There is a moment on Koh Jum when the afternoon light softens, the cicadas begin their quiet chorus, and the tide draws itself into a slow exhale. It’s during this golden hour that guests at Koh Jum Beach Villas start to wander, some barefoot from the pool, others returning from the sea, following the warm scent of toasted spices and grilled pita drifting along the shore.

At the edge of the palms, tucked beside a stretch of sand that feels wonderfully unhurried, sits Beach Bites: our seasonal, open-air food truck serving easy coastal dishes designed for slow days and long sunsets.

A Fresh Take on Beachside Dining

Beach Bites was created to celebrate the relaxed rhythm of island life. Rather than formal dining or white tablecloths, the experience here is spirited, simple, and refreshingly joyful. Think bamboo tables, low-slung beanbags, and the sound of waves brushing the shoreline just meters away.

The menu reflects this playful mood:

– flavorful kebab wraps grilled to order

– warm pita pockets filled with island favorites

– comforting dim sum for light snacking

– crunchy nachos for sharing over drinks

– and indulgent hot dogs

It’s casual food elevated by the atmosphere, eaten with sandy feet, sun-warm skin, and a view of the Andaman Sea stretching into bronze.

Sips for Sunset Lovers

As the sky begins its evening transformation, our bar team shakes up refreshing sunset mojitos, pours chilled Thai artisan beers, and tropical sodas that pair effortlessly with the dishes. There is no rush here; guests settle into beanbags or gather at rustic tables as the trees overhead catch the last ribbons of light.

Made for the Barefoot Traveller

Beach Bites embodies the spirit of Koh Jum: relaxed, natural, and quietly charming. It’s not about elaborate plating or fine dining pomp. It’s about the feeling of togetherness, the effortless conversations, and the pleasure of eating something delicious with the sea at your feet.

For families, it becomes a post-swim treat. For couples, an unplanned sunset ritual. For solo wanderers, a place to pause, sip something cold, and enjoy the forgetting of time.

An Island Moment to Remember

In a world that often moves too quickly, Beach Bites invites you to slow down. To eat with your hands. To watch the sky change color. To arrive hungry and leave unhurried.

Some evenings don’t need a plan, just a place.

It’s not about elaborate dining. It’s about atmosphere, ease, and the kind of moments that quietly become memories.

A Seasonal Experience

Beach Bites is open seasonally at Koh Jum Beach Villas. Daily from 5pm to 11pm with last food orders at 10:30pm. Beach Bites is closed on Wednesdays.

Fresh From the Cane: Why Sugar Cane Juice Belongs in Your Glass

At Koh Jum Beach Villas we have introduced something simple yet special at Driftseed Restaurant and Bar; fresh pressed sugar cane juice. It pours from the machine in a pale golden stream, lightly sweet, cool over ice and perfectly suited to our barefoot beach setting.

Beyond the pleasure of that first sip there is a surprising amount to appreciate about this traditional drink, from its natural properties to its connection with more sustainable choices.

What exactly is sugar cane juice

Sugar cane is a tall grass that thrives in warm climates. Inside each stalk is a fibrous core rich in natural juice. When the stalks are pressed the juice is released and served immediately, usually over ice.

Unlike refined sugar, which has gone through several stages of processing, fresh sugar cane juice is simply the liquid as nature made it. The taste is gently sweet with a hint of grass and caramel, more delicate than many bottled soft drinks.

A natural way to refresh in the tropics

Spending time by the sea, swimming and walking on the sand, is wonderful for the body but it also means we lose fluids and minerals more quickly. Sugar cane juice can support gentle rehydration thanks to its natural composition.

It contains:

  • Natural sugars that offer a mild energy lift without the harsh spike of many energy drinks
  • Electrolytes such as potassium, calcium and magnesium which help the body maintain fluid balance
  • Small amounts of antioxidants that support the body in dealing with everyday oxidative stress

It is still a sweet drink so it is best enjoyed mindfully, however for many guests it provides a more natural alternative to fizzy soft drinks or heavily flavored bottled juices.

From field to glass with less waste

Sugar cane is also interesting from a sustainability point of view.

  • Fast growing crop

Sugar cane grows quickly in the right conditions and can be harvested several times from the same root system. This makes it a productive crop per square meter of land compared with many slower growing plants.

  • Efficient use of the whole plant

When cane is pressed for juice, the leftover fiber, known as bagasse, does not need to be thrown away. In many places it is used as fuel, animal feed or even as a raw material for paper and compostable packaging. This kind of circular thinking supports more responsible agriculture and reduces waste.

  • Less packaging, more local flavor

At Driftseed we press the juice directly at the bar. There is no can, plastic bottle or long transport chain for a soft drink that travelled across the world. Guests see the cane, the machine and the glass, and can literally taste the landscape in front of them.

How we serve sugar cane juice at Driftseed

At Koh Jum Beach Villas we like drinks that feel relaxed, elegant and rooted in place. Our sugar cane juice fits perfectly. Guests can enjoy it in a number of ways:

  • Simply over ice for a light, refreshing drink
  • With fresh lime or ginger for extra zest
  • As a mixer with your chosen spirit for a naturally sweet long drink
  • As the base of a signature cocktail created by our bar team

Pressed to order, each glass feels personal and fresh, and the gentle sweetness pairs beautifully with sea air and slow afternoons.

A small choice with a bigger story

Ordering a glass of sugar cane juice might seem like a simple decision but it carries a small story. It supports local growers, reduces reliance on imported bottled drinks and makes use of a crop that can be grown and reused thoughtfully. At the same time it offers you a cooling pause in the day, a moment to sit back, listen to the waves and savor something made just for you.

Next time you visit Driftseed Restaurant and Bar, ask for a glass of fresh sugar cane juice and taste how refreshment, local character and more mindful choices can come together in one sip.

Koh Jum Beach Villas at Bangkok Climate Action Week 2025

In Collaboration with LOKAL Re:Generative

On 4th October 2025, Koh Jum Beach Villas collaborated with LOKAL Re:Generative as part of the first-ever Bangkok Climate Action Week (BKKCAW), held from 28 September to 5 October 2025. This landmark event brought together people and organizations across Thailand and Southeast Asia to catalyze whole-of-society climate action. Within this framework, LOKAL Re:Generative convened change makers and curious citizens to explore how regeneration can guide us beyond sustainability, towards restoring vitality for people, communities, and ecosystems.

A Living Journey Through People, Place, and Purpose

Curated by LOKAL Re:Generative, an eight-day experiential program designed to bridge research, dialogue, and practice, the event unfolded across multiple venues,  from Museum Siam and Baan Tepa Culinary Space in Bangkok to Choktawee Agroforestry in Nakhon Ratchasima.

LOKAL’s approach weaves Thai culture and Southeast Asian wisdom into learning experiences that connect heart, place, and purpose. The initiative convened a curated group of changemakers, from hospitality and food systems to academia, design, and bioregional conservation,  to explore how regeneration can be lived, not just discussed.

Our Role: Regenerative Hospitality in Action

On Day 4: Exploring Regenerative Hospitality and Design, Koh Jum Beach Villas joined Ipse Ipsa Ipsum in presenting living examples of how luxury, culture, and ecology can coexist harmoniously.

Learn more about Ipse Ipsa Ipsum here: @IpseIpsaIpsum

We shared our journey:

  • Community roots: Founded after the 2004 tsunami, the resort began by helping local families rebuild their long-tail boats, vital for fishing and island transport, before evolving into an eco-luxury retreat supporting livelihoods and resilience.
  • Living within natural limits: With Travelife Gold Certification, our resort integrates biodiversity protection, solar power, organic gardens, and a ban on single-use plastics into daily operations.
  • Education and cultural connection: Through local school programs and guest experiences, we nurture environmental awareness and cultural exchange, from rubber tapping and traditional boat making to visits to the Following Giants elephant sanctuary.
  • Partnerships with purpose: We proudly work with Thai farmers, fishermen, and artisans while sourcing coffee, tea, spirits, and produce from ethical national suppliers.

Lessons and Insights

Our central message was simple: true luxury regenerates. Comfort and beauty can exist in harmony with ecological and cultural wellbeing.

Regeneration, however, isn’t always neat or linear. Some of our experiments, like an ancient Egyptian-inspired sand hydroponic system, taught us valuable lessons in adaptation. Others, like our education initiatives and coral protection efforts, have thrived. Even our humor helps us stay resilient as we navigate the challenges of operating within ecological boundaries, from managing supply chain habits around single-use plastics to continuously rethinking our footprint.

Why It Matters

As highlighted by LOKAL Re:Generative, sustainability alone can no longer meet the complexity of today’s “polycrisis”, overlapping challenges of climate change, inequality, and biodiversity loss. Regeneration asks us to go beyond harm reduction, to actively participate in restoring life and vitality

At Koh Jum Beach Villas, that participation begins with heart, place, and people, embedding care for the environment, respect for culture, and empowerment of the local community into every guest experience.

Looking Forward

Participating in Bangkok Climate Action Week and collaborating with LOKAL Re:Generative reaffirmed our belief that regeneration must be lived through real, grounded examples. Together, we’re showing that tourism can become a force for renewal, strengthening communities, ecosystems, and shared futures.

About LOKAL Re:Generative

LOKAL Re:Generative is a Thailand-based initiative that explores how regeneration can transform systems across sectors, from food and hospitality to academia, design, and finance. Through research, experiential learning, and community dialogue, the program fosters collaboration between people and place, aiming to shift the conversation from sustaining to regenerating

Biodiversity: The Living Heart of Koh Jum Beach Villas

At Koh Jum Beach Villas, biodiversity isn’t just an amenity, it’s the bedrock of everything we do. From nurturing our native gardens and safeguarding nocturnal wildlife to minimizing environmental impact across our operations, every choice is a tribute to the delicate ecosystems that make our island a sanctuary, for both nature and our guests.

A Garden That Gives Back

Our gardens are not only lush and vibrant but also deeply rooted in ecological balance and stewardship. Every plant, from trees to flowering shrubs, is carefully selected from species native to Koh Jum. We cultivate them without chemicals, using regenerative practices that enrich our soil and establish thriving habitats for honey bees, stingless bees, butterflies, beetles, birds, reptiles, and amphibians.

By maintaining healthy soil, we prevent erosion and halt nutrient runoff into the sea, protecting critical coastal ecosystems like mangroves, seagrass beds, and coral reefs. As land clearing and industrial agriculture threaten these fragile systems worldwide, our regenerative approach safeguards them in our own backyard.

Protecting Nature, Even at Night

When the sun dips below the horizon over the Andaman Sea, we let nature remain unlit. Our commitment to minimizing light pollution, by avoiding excessive beachfront lighting and unnecessary glare, ensures that nocturnal wildlife can carry on with natural feeding, nesting, and migratory behaviors. This approach not only protects fragile ecosystems, but also grants our guests an unforgettable experience: a night sky filled with stars, accompanied by the soothing symphony of the island at rest.

Living in Harmony with Land and Sea

From dawn till dusk, and into the night, our operations are designed to protect and regenerate. We compost organic waste to enrich our soil, manage water usage with care, and reduce single-use plastics at every turn. These efforts earned us the Travelife Gold Certification for 2025–2026, an internationally recognized recognition of our commitment to sustainability and meaningful luxury.

As a Travelife Gold-certified resort, we’re held to standards that span:

  • Biodiversity and ecosystem protection: including pesticide-free landscaping and reef-safe choices
  • Responsible waste management: like composting, refillable water solutions, and minimizing single-use plastics
  • Responsible procurement and community support: such as hiring locally, sourcing ingredients from nearby farmers, and partnering with ethical tour providers

This certification signals that every facet of our resort, from solar energy and mangrove conservation to fair labor practices, is audited and aligned with global sustainability standards.

Why It Matters

Biodiversity is about more than just flora and fauna, it’s the heartbeat of resilience. Healthy ecosystems buffer coastlines, pollinate food systems, and sustain the delicate balances we often take for granted. For our guests, this means more than seeing a Brahminy Kite in flight or wandering through fragrant native gardens. It means being immersed in a place that feels whole, nurturing, and profoundly alive, and knowing that your stay supports its continued flourishing.

Nature’s Solution: Our Homemade Eco-Mosquito Traps

Nature’s Solution: Our Homemade Eco-Mosquito Traps

At Koh Jum Beach Villas, we believe that luxury can exist in harmony with the natural world. That’s why even our approach to something as every day as mosquito control is rooted in sustainability. Instead of relying on chemicals, we’ve created a simple, eco-friendly system that protects both our guests and the island’s delicate environment.

Turning Waste into Wellness

Each trap begins with something that would otherwise be discarded: an old tire. In Thailand, tires are often left to pile up or are burned, creating toxic pollution. By repurposing them into mosquito traps, we give them a second life and reduce waste at the same time. Two traps can be made from one tire, transforming potential landfill into a tool for regeneration.

How the Traps Work

Here’s the simple science:

  • A small hole is drilled at the bottom of the tire section.
  • Each trap is filled with water and just a dash of milk.
  • The milk attracts mosquitoes, which lay their eggs inside the trap rather than in random pools of water around the resort.
  • Every week, our dedicated team carefully drains the water through a fine net, capturing larvae before they can grow.
  • The larvae are safely disposed of, while the traps are refilled and ready to go again.

With over 25 traps hidden in shady corners of our gardens, they work quietly in the background to keep mosquito populations under control.

          Why It Matters

Most mosquito control solutions involve chemical sprays, which may reduce pests in the short term but can also harm pollinators, soil, and water systems. Our homemade traps, on the other hand, are:

          • Chemical-free, ensuring no toxins reach our gardens, soil, or sea.
          • Low-impact, made entirely from recycled materials.
          • Community-friendly, demonstrating that simple, sustainable ideas can make a big difference.

              A Comfortable, Regenerative Stay

For us, these traps represent more than just pest control. They reflect the way we think about living in balance with nature: every challenge is an opportunity to regenerate, reuse, and rethink. Our guests can relax, knowing that their comfort comes with the assurance of environmental care.

Because when it comes to sustainable luxury, even the smallest details matter.

Green Season Paradise: Koh Jum and Thailand’s Islands in the Lush Low Season

              What is the Green Season?

If you’ve ever heard the term “Green Season” tossed around while planning a tropical getaway, you might wonder what it actually means. In Thailand, the Green Season refers to the monsoon months from May through October, when brief but nourishing rains sweep across the country’s coastlines, mountains, and islands. Unlike the peak tourist seasons of dry winter or hot summer, this period is affectionately dubbed “green” for a reason, the landscapes come alive with color, vitality, and spirit. Think of thick emerald jungles, rice paddies gleaming like mirrors, and waterfalls at full throttle.

But here’s the twist: this season isn’t a washout. Despite its “rainy” label, the weather often follows a rhythm, sunny mornings give way to brief, dramatic afternoon showers and cool evenings. It’s a pattern that breathes life into nature without necessarily ruining your beach day. The rains don’t pour constantly; they visit in bursts, often followed by spectacular sunsets and dramatic cloud formations that photographers dream of. In short, the Green Season is less about being drenched and more about being immersed, in nature, in local culture, and in a slower, richer pace of travel.

Changing the Narrative: Rain as Rejuvenation

Let’s be honest: when most Western travelers think of vacation, endless sun and blue skies come to mind. But what if we told you that the soft rhythm of tropical rain can actually be the perfect soundtrack to your escape? That the earthiness in the air after a shower, the feel of cool mist against warm skin, and the sight of rain nourishing the land can be not just refreshing, but downright healing?

The Green Season turns that typical narrative on its head. Locals embrace this time with joy and reverence. They see it as nature’s reset button, a time when the land regains its strength, when farmers celebrate growth, and when the pace of life slows to something more intentional. For eco-conscious travelers, it offers a rare opportunity to sync with that rhythm and experience Thailand through a different, more grounded lens. You’re not dodging storms, you’re soaking in serenity, in every sense.

Why Visit Thailand’s Islands in the Green Season?

First up: the landscapes. The Green Season doesn’t just revive greenery, it amplifies everything. The forests are lush, the flowers in full bloom, and the wildlife active. Even the ocean, with its misty horizons and surging waves, feels more alive.

Then there’s the space, glorious, uninterrupted space. Fewer tourists mean empty beaches, quieter resorts, and no waiting in line for a coconut. You can book a massage and have the whole spa to yourself or wander into a beachside café and chat with the owner like an old friend.

Next, affordability. Prices drop, sometimes dramatically, across the board. Want to stay in a private pool villa or a luxurious eco-lodge without breaking the bank? Green Season is your window. Flights from Europe and North America can be significantly cheaper, and hotels often slash rates by 30-50%.

And let’s not forget the culture. With the usual tourist tide out, you’re more likely to connect deeply with local life. You’ll witness authentic traditions, join local events, and see a version of Thailand that’s often hidden during the high season rush. It’s not just a vacation; it’s a deeper journey into the soul of the land.

Lush Green Landscapes at Their Peak

Come Green Season, Thailand doesn’t just get wet, it gets wild, in the most beautiful way. Imagine stepping into a world painted in a thousand shades of green. The mountains are blanketed in fresh growth, leaves glisten with dew, and hidden waterfalls awaken from their slumber. There’s something magical about watching nature hit its stride after months of dryness. Birds return, insects sing, and the entire ecosystem hums with life.

Across the islands, especially in the Andaman Sea region, the transformation is breathtaking. Take Koh Jum, Koh Lanta or Koh Phi Phi in the dry season, they’re charming, but in the Green Season, they’re enchanting. Trails once dusty now weave through verdant jungle. The air is cool and charged with energy, carrying the scent of rain-drenched earth and blooming flowers.

The ocean also brings its own rhythm. With fewer boats on the water and quieter coastlines, Koh Jum offers moments of calm reflection by the sea. Its coastal ecosystems are rich with life, mangroves shelter birdlife and juvenile marine species, and the shifting tides reveal textured shorelines, scattered shells, and natural driftwood. It is a place to walk slowly, breathe deeply, and witness nature’s quieter magic, a photographer’s dream and a mindful traveler’s invitation to pause.

              Koh Jum’s Green Awakening

Our peaceful island, nestled between Krabi, Koh Lanta and Phi Phi Islands, escapes the spotlight even during peak months. But in the Green Season, it becomes a veritable Eden. Towering palms sway over quiet beaches, mangroves teem with birdlife, and the jungle trails glow in brilliant green hues.

What sets Koh Jum apart is how unspoiled it feels. There are no high-rises here, no jet-ski noise or booming beach bars. Instead, think villas under the trees, paths lined with wildflowers, and local kids splashing in puddles as the rain falls gently.

In the evenings, brief showers give way to mesmerizing sunsets, deep orange and purple skies reflected in calm waters, with only the chirp of crickets and croak of frogs to accompany you. Travelers who’ve experienced Koh Jum during this time often call it “a hidden paradise,” and it’s easy to see why. You’re not just witnessing nature, you’re enveloped by it.

              Serenity, Space, and Fewer Tourists

There’s a unique luxury in being alone, truly alone, in a place of stunning natural beauty. That’s what the Green Season offers on Thailand’s islands. When you visit during the off-season, it’s like the islands were made just for you. You walk down a stretch of golden sand without another soul in sight. You sip coffee at the beachfront with only the sound of waves and rustling leaves.

This isn’t just about fewer people, it’s about spaciousness in every sense.

On Koh Jum, there are no crowds to escape or queues to beat, even in peak season, the pace remains gentle. But during the Green Season, that calm deepens. It feels as though the island opens up just for you. You can walk along quiet beaches, take your time over long meals, or linger in nature without interruption. There’s freedom to slow down, wander intuitively, and let the day unfold at your own rhythm.

Why Koh Jum Beach Villas Shines in the Green Season

              1. Perfect match for off-season serenity: With so few guests, the resort becomes a peaceful haven, the entire beach feels like it’s yours.
              1. Luxury at a discount: Green Season brings value as villa rates are reduced.
              1. Tailored service: Staff are calm, attentive, and won’t be rushed, whether arranging in-villa dining, yoga, boat tours, or just chatting with you over sunset cocktails.

              A Note on Nature’s Rhythm

The Green Season is a time of beauty and renewal, often marked by gentle rain showers and long sunny spells. However, as with any natural rhythm, there are moments when the rains linger. Some weeks may invite a slower pace, with soft skies and long, quiet afternoons. We encourage guests to embrace this time as an opportunity to rest, restore, and reconnect.

Our Nervous System Reset Retreat guide, available through our Guest Portal, offers suggestions for making the most of slower days, with calming practices, nourishing rituals, and ways to care for your body and mind, rain or shine.

              Plan Your Stay: Quick Tips

              • Best villa types:
For solo travelers or couples, one-bedroom beachfront pool villas offer peace, privacy, and sea breezes. Some include an additional side-kick sleeping space suitable for a young child. For families or groups, our larger villas such as Baan Don or Baan Khating provide multiple bedrooms and spacious shared areas, ideal for extended stays. Please review individual layouts when booking, as room arrangements vary.
              • Booking direct:
Often unlocks special Green Season deals or benefits like airport transfers via speedboat arranged directly by the resort.
              • Pack essentials:
Natural mosquito coils and repellant are provided in every villa, and umbrellas are available around the resort. We recommend packing a light rain jacket and comfortable, light outdoor footwear for exploring. For evenings, long sleeves and light trousers are ideal for extra protection from mosquitos.

Discover Koh Jum Through Its Birds

A sanctuary for nature lovers and slow travelers alike

In our Slow Travel series, we explore how travel can become a deeper, more conscious experience, guiding us to pause, breathe, and connect with the places we visit.

In a world of constant notifications and deadlines, finding spaces that invite you to slow down is a rare luxury. On Koh Jum, birdwatching becomes more than a hobby, it becomes a doorway to seeing, feeling, and moving with the rhythms of the island. At Koh Jum Beach Villas, birdwatching is not just an activity, it is an invitation to travel with intention while immersing yourself in nature.

              The Art of Slowing Down

Birdwatching is the essence of slow travel. It asks you to pause, breathe, and pay attention. It is not about ticking off a list but about tuning your senses to the place you are in, noticing the flutter of wings, the call of a distant bird, and the quiet between those sounds. On Koh Jum, this practice feels natural. Away from crowds and noise, you find yourself waking early, eager to watch the first light reveal the gardens and mangroves where birds thrive.

              The Healing Power of Stillness

Spending time in nature reduces stress and supports mental wellbeing. Watching birds brings your mind into the present, each chirp and flutter calling you back to now. Birdwatching becomes a gentle ritual that aligns with your body’s natural rhythms, offering restoration for the mind while grounding you in the beauty of where you are.

A Sanctuary for Birds and Guests

Our bamboo Bird Hide, set within lush organic gardens, is the heart of the birdwatching experience at Koh Jum Beach Villas. Surrounded by native plants and shady palms, it offers a cool retreat where you can watch the island’s birdlife unfold around you. With over 80 species recorded on the island, including Brahminy Kites, sunbirds, and tailorbirds, each visit offers a new moment of discovery.

For some of our guests, birdwatching is more than a holiday activity, it is the reason they come. Wildlife photographer Daniel Dow, known for capturing rare and intimate moments in nature, is one such guest who has visited the island to document its avian diversity. His stunning images, taken here at the resort, are a testament to the bird life available for those who seek.

Beyond the joy of spotting a rare bird, birdwatching cultivates patience and presence. It encourages quietude and appreciation, aligning perfectly with the values of slow, conscious travel that Koh Jum Beach Villas champions. Each moment spent in the Bird Hide is a moment of gentle restoration, reminding us that travel is not just about places, but about how we engage with them.
