Nature’s Solution: Our Homemade Eco-Mosquito Traps

Nature’s Solution: Our Homemade Eco-Mosquito Traps

At Koh Jum Beach Villas, we believe that luxury can exist in harmony with the natural world. That’s why even our approach to something as every day as mosquito control is rooted in sustainability. Instead of relying on chemicals, we’ve created a simple, eco-friendly system that protects both our guests and the island’s delicate environment.

Turning Waste into Wellness

Each trap begins with something that would otherwise be discarded: an old tire. In Thailand, tires are often left to pile up or are burned, creating toxic pollution. By repurposing them into mosquito traps, we give them a second life and reduce waste at the same time. Two traps can be made from one tire, transforming potential landfill into a tool for regeneration.

How the Traps Work

Here’s the simple science:

  • A small hole is drilled at the bottom of the tire section.
  • Each trap is filled with water and just a dash of milk.
  • The milk attracts mosquitoes, which lay their eggs inside the trap rather than in random pools of water around the resort.
  • Every week, our dedicated team carefully drains the water through a fine net, capturing larvae before they can grow.
  • The larvae are safely disposed of, while the traps are refilled and ready to go again.

With over 25 traps hidden in shady corners of our gardens, they work quietly in the background to keep mosquito populations under control.

          Why It Matters

Most mosquito control solutions involve chemical sprays, which may reduce pests in the short term but can also harm pollinators, soil, and water systems. Our homemade traps, on the other hand, are:

          • Chemical-free, ensuring no toxins reach our gardens, soil, or sea.
          • Low-impact, made entirely from recycled materials.
          • Community-friendly, demonstrating that simple, sustainable ideas can make a big difference.

              A Comfortable, Regenerative Stay

For us, these traps represent more than just pest control. They reflect the way we think about living in balance with nature: every challenge is an opportunity to regenerate, reuse, and rethink. Our guests can relax, knowing that their comfort comes with the assurance of environmental care.

Because when it comes to sustainable luxury, even the smallest details matter.
